"By the mid-nineties, Mr. Voodoo had established himself in the city's underground. Coming out of Brooklyn, he was part of the WBAI Underground Railroad circle with J-Smooth, while his radio appearances and freestyles brought his voice into the wider New York scene. Natural Elements — Voodoo, L-Swift, A-Butta and the wider circle around them — were building their reputation at the same time, through records, battles, radio and live sessions. With Charlemagne behind the boards, they developed a sound of their own, while the MCs pushed their writing, delivery and technical skills in a city where the standard was high.

This was New York in the mid-nineties: WBAI and Stretch & Bobbito on the radio, crews crossing paths, new records constantly appearing, and a generation of MCs taking the craft further in their own direction. Natural Elements were right in the middle of that movement, and Voodoo's voice was one of its most distinctive.

His recordings from those years capture the breadth of that period. The 1996 "Lyrical Tactics" 12-inch — with "Lyrical Tactics," "Shine" and "Hemlock," all produced by Charlemagne — sits at the center of a much larger body of work recorded around the same time.

"Formed in the Boston area in the early 1990s, God Complex consisted of 7L (DJ/Producer), Esoteric (MC), and KARMA (MC), with Madsol (Producer/DJ) serving as an early collaborator and mentor. 7L and KARMA had already begun making beats together in high school when they connected with Esoteric through his college radio show north of Boston. Madsol helped shape the group's early sound, getting them into studio sessions and onto independent radio while producing many of their demos and earliest recordings.

Between 1993 and 1996, the group recorded a raw body of work built from dusty samples, hard drums, battle rhymes, obscure sci-fi references, and comic-book mythology—the early DNA of what was to come.

Their first and only proper 12" arrived in 1996, a split release with AOI issued by the fledgling Boston independent Brick Records. From there, 7L and Esoteric continued together, building one of hip-hop's longest-running creative partnerships, ultimately leading to CZARFACE. KARMA shifted his focus from audio to visual, designing and shaping the graphic identity of the extensive 7LES catalog—a creative relationship that continues today. Madsol continued behind the boards and decks, moving to New York and founding Hi-Rise Records.

ParanormL & J Rawls - P&J Project - 2026

"ParanormL and J.Rawls first linked up through an overseas label called Swamp Records, which we were both signed to in 2007. J.Rawls was scheduled for a release, and the label had planned a tour for him and his artist, Holmskillit. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they needed someone to fill in for Holmskillit, and ParanormL's name was thrown in the hat. J.Rawls was down after hearing ParanormL's latest album, and this was the start of something special.

They did a week-long run from Tokyo to Osaka and had plenty of time to get to know each other. A brother-type bond was built, along with a mutual trust in their ability to rock shows without much rehearsal. The crowds were left slayed. Their first show at Club Asia was packed to the gills, and they really showed and proved.

With their shared love for hip hop and jazz-hop, it was a no-brainer that they should make something together while on the Japan tour. They started out with just one song, "What's That?", which eventually led to twelve tracks. In 2007, they released a full P&J mixtape hosted by Rawls, which received over 100,000 downloads.

Now almost 20 years later HHE has given this album the opportunity to exist in a physical form and reach listeners again. "It all started back in 1987 when Madsol formed a rap duo with the late, great Dialek. They recorded together all the way up until 1995 building a catalog of music that laid the foundation for their lasting legacy in East Coast hip-hop. In 1997, Madsol and Dialek established the production team Knighz Of Muzik, creating countless underground classics for artists including Ed O.G, Scientifik, Concrete Click, Laster, D. Auguste, Da F.E.N.C.E. Men, and many others.

Later in 1997, Madsol relocated to New York City to fully pursue his music career as a producer, DJ, and recording artist. That same year, he founded Hi-Rise Records, one of New York City's premier independent underground hip-hop labels. Bridging the gap between the streets and the industry, Hi-Rise Records became known for its authentic lyricism and uncompromising production. The label released the first official recording by Immortal Technique and went on to release acclaimed underground recordings featuring Talib Kweli, Esoteric, The Last Emperor, and other influential artists.

Hip-Hop Enterprise now proudly presents a project with previously unreleased recordings from DJ Madsol Desar and Krumbsnatcha. We have one track recorded in 1997 at D&D Studios Brooklyn, NY and we have 4 tracks recorded in 2000 at Frame of Art Studios also located in Brooklyn, NY. HHE makes a powerful return with a release that digs deep into the roots of underground hip-hop. In collaboration with Fortress Entertainment, this first installment marks the beginning of a series of projects that promise to unearth more hidden gems from the label’s archives.

This record stands as a true time capsule, showcasing rare and essential recordings from the mid-90s. It kicks off with the full Natural Elements EP from 1994, back when the group was still a six-man crew, featuring an early appearance from the legendary KA (RIP). The project also includes a previously unreleased track from Nightbreed, the mythical duo formed by KA and Kev.

Further enriching the collection are an early classic from L-Swift, a hard-hitting track from the Raidermen, and an outstanding unreleased demo by female emcee Essence, also recorded in 1994.

MF Grimm, real name Percy Carey, isn't your typical MC. A survivor of an attempted murder, a former drug dealer, and confined to a wheelchair since 1994, he represents a darker often overlooked side of New York’s hip-hop landscape. " DJ Grazzhoppa and Smimooz put out the very first Solid vs Green album back in 1998. Their self-titled debut focused strictly on showcasing their dope beatmaking skills and turntablism. They followed it up with the "Operation Molotov" EP in 2001 and then finally "Solid Gold" in 2012 which was a remix album.

Now in 2025 we are very proud to present you a new Solid vs Green project that has been in the making for several years. Solid vs Green teamed up with the Baltimore crew "Animal Gang" and this 7-headed outfit will surely ring bells with many. Members include Jamil Honesty, Don Streat, Cayoz, Unreal, Jigsaw, Mic Handz and last but not least Senica Da Misfit (R.I.P.). HHE followers will remember him from his timeless "The Mayan Script" album we put out back in 2020. Not only was Senica a gifted poet but he was also a great actor that got several supporting roles in Netflix series and was getting increasingly more exposure. He was taken from us unexpectedly in 2021 but here you will find some of the last recordings he did gracing us with his insightful and deep storytelling.
