Arsonists - As The World Burns & Lost In The Fire (2xCD) - 2018

2xCD - 2018 - Below System Records

"2018 will mark the return of the original Bushwick Bomb Squad! Legendary emcee crew, the Arsonists have announced a double-album release via Below System Records.
This will include a deluxe edition of the group’s classic debut album “As The World Burns” (released in 1999) which yielded such underground anthems as “Blaze”, “Halloween” and the “Session.”

It will also include “Lost In The Fire”, which will include many unreleased gems including tracks with J-Live, High & Mighty and Mass Influence as well as six new tracks from the group (the first in over fifteen years!) with guest appearances from Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks) and Ill Bill (La Coka Nostra, Non-Phixion).

Composed of D-Stroy, Q-Unique, Freestyle, Jise and Swel these Brooklyn spitters were among the most creative wordsmiths and energetic live performers during an extremely fertile period of boom-bap that included the Lyricist Lounge, Rawkus Records, Fat Beats Records and the Stretch & Bobbito show. On the group’s motivation, D-Stroy revealed “we were focused so much on our love of hip-hop that it kept us off the streets, away from drugs, all of us in my parent’s house rhyming and recording.

After appearing on the Stretch & Bobbito Show, Bobbito Garcia was so impressed as to sign the group to his Fondle ‘Em Records to release several classic singles on wax. The results allowed the crew to hit the road through North America and Europe, many of them leaving New York and the United States for the first time ever. The group toured with such notables as Public Enemy, The Roots and the Wu-Tang Clan.

Top taste-making Indie rock label Matador Records who developed such groups as Guided By Voices, Pavement and Mogwai wanted the Arsonists to be the first hip-hop group on the label. “As The World Burns” was the result of this partnership. Critically acclaimed and well respected, speaking on the enduring legacy of the album, D-Stroy said “I think it’s one of the last albums to champion the four elements of hip-hop, it’s basically our love letter to the culture and a lot of heads identify with that love.

Though the group dissolved by 2002, the members have kept heads ringing in the entertainment industry including solo releases and forays into film, TV and radio. Summing it up D recalls “I was hosting an event for Nike and one of the executives came up to me and spit one of Q-Unique’s verses verbatim to me. It’s like a whole generation of young heads and college students grew up on our music and are doing something for the movement as well.” "

Camouflage Large

"C**k back da nine/Push your wig back/All my peoples in the PJs pack gats
Do you remember that ? no doubt It should talk to you if you were listening to real Hip-Hop in 1996.

Camouflage Large was a Brooklyn based crew from Breukelen Projects and originally consisted of E-Knight, White-AL, Four-Fif, Black Assassin, Razen Kane and 9 Lives.
The group was founded and started creating demos circa '96.
The Assassin : "We all grew up in the same neighborhood and some of us went to the same schools."
White-AL : "We were all friends and had different styles in terms of rapping. We all had separate solos and collabos together that I may still have on cassette and I have a few digital copies somewhere..."

They dropped their first 12" maxi-single 'Hitmen Holdin' Steel / Cocbacda 9' in 1996 on Close Range Records, a label owned by Kenyatta Bell.

12" - 1996 - Close Range Records

The tracks were produced by E-knight who was also a member of the excellent indy group N.Y Confidential. Both tracks had good critics from the underground Hip-Hop scene when it came out and were played many times by Stretch & Bobbito on WKCR that year, certainly the only Radio Show which was able to spin this kind of wax.
Quality guarantee, the tracks were recorded at D&D Studio and all cuts done by Dj Goldfinger. As you can see on the pic above, the first pressing was with artist misspelled as "Camoflauge" on labels but it will be correctly spelled on the second version.

White-AL : "We never had a budget to record a full album. I started my own label "Camouflage Large Records LLC" with my partner Richard L Williams a.k.a Weev with all of the members minus E-knight and put out the second single entitled 'Regulate' "

12" - 1997 - Camouflage Large Records

The wax came out in 1997 and was composed of 3 tracks : "Regulate" produced by Jovonn, "Hear Me Out" and "Heavy Heaters" both produced by Latief who is also known for his productions for dope artists like Grand Puba, Mystidious Misfitss, Masta Ace, Onyx, All City and more ...

The CL Clique used to perform with Killa Army a lot and did a commercial for a local clothing store in Brooklyn way back called S&D Downtown Brooklyn.
After that the group ended ... but most of the members are still in the game nowadays. White-Al and E-knight are still here under the same monikers. The Assassin is now known as Jus Stacks and Four-Fif is the CEO and founder of MoveOver Magazine.

White-AL: "All of us are still doing well... A few of us are still underground artist and are still rapping including myself... we’re still all cook with each other til this day. "

Mad Props to Alex Robles a.k.a White-AL

The Last Kind - Revelations - 2000

"The Los Angeles-based Hip-Hop group the Last Kind represent the ideology of most underground, independent acts. The group has been together since 1990 and was the creative production of Maja Clout and Derek Strong. In 1992, Marce-Fly joined the group with R-Diggy and Prop climbing on board in 1995 to finalize the lineup.
The group was solid in their belief against joining sides with major record labels, as they felt it could potentially jeopardize their creativity. To expose their material, they made homemade tapes and sold them at shows and at record stores who supported local talent. The Last Kind's persistent efforts resulted in a huge local following and small, national fan base.
In early 2000, the Last Kind signed a deal with the small label, Stray Records, who the group felt best represented and understood them." - courtesy of Diana Potts

In 2000, the crew was composed of M-Fly, Prop a.k.a Wildelux, Megalawge a.k.a R-Diggy, Dj TMK, D-Strong and MajaClout. They released their first and only album called "Revelations" on Stray Records, a stunning surprise from the West Coast composed of 14 tracks mostly produced by R-Diggy.
If you don't have it on your shelf yet, be sure to cop it asap !
