Sam Krats - Culture - 2026

" Revorg Records return with a no-frills, heavy-hitting release from Sam Krats — an ambitious 22-track double album titled Culture. The project follows the critically acclaimed Culture single released in 2021, continuing Krats’ run of boom bap production paired with uncompromising lyricism. The Bristol-based producer has built a reputation for consistent, high-level collaborations and builds on this with his first LP.

Built over 12 years with no rush and no compromise, Culture is rooted in the core elements of hip-hop — beats, rhymes, cuts, and respect for the craft. This isn’t a throwback record; it’s a continuation — linking eras, scenes, and artists who’ve stayed true to the culture. Krats’ sample-based production draws from a deep respect for the 90s era boom bap culture championed by pioneers of the art form such as Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Marley Marl and DJ Premier, but without relying on it, the album builds forward — connecting the UK and the US through a shared language of hip-hop.

Krats brings together a heavyweight line-up from across the Atlantic. US collaborators include Artifacts (featuring the late Tame One), Craig G of the legendary Juice Crew, Andre the Giant of Showbiz and AG, Ruste Juxx, Guilty Simpson, Jeru the Damaja, ED O.G. and Neek the Exotic of Main Source — a roster that speaks to the foundations of the genre. On the UK side, the album stays firmly grounded. Featuring Oliver Sudden, Big Toast, Ramson Badbonez and Gee Bag from the Revorg Records camp, alongside King Kashmere, Mysdiggi, Junior Disprol, Bubba Louis of Aspects and Retna, Culture represents the strength and depth of this mutual appreciation.

Turntable duties come courtesy of Jazz T, Sir Beans OBE, Mr Fantastic, DJ Rogue, DJ Rasp and Krats himself keeping the cuts sharp and the sound authentic throughout.

“It was key that I created a body of work which brings together my shared love of both US and UK hip hop. In the UK, we’re standing on the shoulder of giants but this album aims to showcase the breadth of talent on both sides of the pond”

— Sam Krats -

The title Culture says it plainly. "

Legend a.k.a. Kama Kazi - The Truth - 1998

12" - 1998 - Pheroes Ent.

Here is the "The Truth", the debut 12" released by Legend a.k.a Kama Kazi from Nottingham, UK. It came out in 1998 on Pheroes Entertainment, a record label managed by Kama Kazi himself (Simeon Rose) and Big Trev a.k.a Trevor Rose.

The record consists of 4 tracks titled "The Truth" (Radio Edit & Instrumental) and "Search For a Leader" (Radio Edit) on the A-side, and "A Talented Thug" (Radio Edit & Instrumental), "Dreams (Guided Only By My Intuition)" (Original & Instrumental) on the B-side.

All the productions were handled by Courtney Rose a.k.a Viking. I'm pretty sure Trevor and Courtney are brothers. Simeon might be a third brother or perhaps a cousin.

I don't know if you've connected the dots, but Viking and Trevor Rose were members of the Nottingham group Pure Genius, founded in the early '90s with the other original members Law, Nicky Fogo, Framps, KID (RIP) and DJ Fever. Trevor Rose also headed the label Pure Pressure Records, which released the group's two 12-inches "Unbelievable / Undercover" in 1995 and "Law of the Land EP" in 1996. We'll talk about these 12-inches in another blog post. Peace

2Face - NYC /Hey Hey Hey - 1996

12" - 1996 - Blindside Recordings

This record is born in 1996 from the meeting between Natural Elements members L-Swift and A-Butta and UK producers Si Spex and Juliano (better known as The Creators) during the two MCs' visit to the United Kingdom. DJ Mayhem of Natural Elements brought L-Swift and A-Butta to England to work with Blindside Recordings, who in turn introduced them to The Creators. The producers played some beats, the MCs picked two and they recorded them.

Both songs are "NYC" featuring DJ Mayhem from Natural Elements on the A-side and "Hey Hey Hey" on the B-side, each presented in its original, radio and instrumental versions.

About the production of the track "NYC", the Creators used a sample of the song "One I Could Have Loved " performed by Steve Kuhn & Gary McFarland and released in 1966 on Impulse! Records. For "Hey Hey Hey", the sample comes from the song ""Foxtrott-Medley1" from a German organist called Klaus Wunderlich.

The story behind the name 2Face came out of a dilemma : their partner in rhyme, Mr. Voodoo, wasn't on the tracks. Releasing the record under the full Natural Elements name felt off, even misleading. As L-Swift would explain years later, "we didn't want it to say ‘by Natural Elements’, as to not do false advertising, since our homie Mr. Voodoo wasn't on those records."

Searching for another way to present the project, L-Swift leaned into his own zodiac sign. A Gemini by birth, he was all too familiar with the reputation that came with it, "two-faced". Rather than take it as an insult, he flipped the meaning into something clever. If he was one face, then A-Butta was the other. Together they became 2Face, a new identity born of circumstance, humor, and the kind of quick thinking wordplay that defined the crew. The name stuck and 2Face came to represent not just a momentary moniker, but the creative chemistry between two MCs whose styles mirrored and complemented each other.

About the wax, It remains really easy to find and won't cost you much, so if you're a big Natural Elements fan like me, you should grab this record ASAP. Peace

Produced by PANDAMONIUM - Multi-Track Mix - Vol.One

Volume One of a multi-track mix series, compiled and mixed by Pandamonium himself, showcases his personal favorite productions from the past five years.

Over this period, Panda's prolific work in Hip Hop over the years has resulted in a catalog stretching across hours of music. To make it more digestible, he decided to divide the collection into separate volumes. Once all are completed (up to a certain stage, of course), they'll be released together as a full tape pack !

Gutter Snypes - The Trials Of Life EP - 1994

EP - 1994 - Liberty Grooves

Here is a very interesting EP from England, released in 1994 by the group Gutter Snypes. This group was formed in 1993, consisting of Cel One, Sigher and Prime Cuts. The same year, the group connected with Johnny F and began working with the label Liberty Grooves, a hip-hop record label and shop based in Tooting (South London, UK), a partnership that resulted in the release of their acclaimed "Trials of Life" EP.

Gutter Snypes & The Liberty Grooves Posse

The EP consists of 5 tracks fully produced by Sigher, with all scratches by Prime Cuts. It also features guest appearances from Jeopardy, Principal Mark & Sniper G.

Even if you're not necessarily a big fan of UK rap, I still strongly recommend this EP which I consider to be one of the best records to emerge from the London hip-hop scene in the early-mid 90s. Its price remains quite reasonable and the wax is still easy to find online. Peace
