PHrame A Thought - New York State Of Mind - 1994
Here are some dope demos uploaded in 2014 on youtube by Sneak Tipp that I'd like to see coming out one day on vinyl ! The snippets come from a demo tape entitled "New York State of Mind" which was recorded by a Brooklyn-based group called PHrame A Thought (PHAT) in 1994. Those demos were the only tracks recorded by PHrame A Thought unfortunately at the time.
I don't have any info about those kats from East New York. I've been in contact with Screwface who was one of the core member of the group but it seems that he isn't interested in talking about the story of the group. All I know is that in 2000, Screwface worked for the cover of Prodigy's first solo album "H.N.I.C.". Here is what he wrote about it :

Here is another wax for your record collection coming straight from Hartford, Connecticut and released by D-Vine in 1994. He dropped his debut 12" "Fit In 2 My Structure" on Nu Born Records, a record label owned by D-Vine's manager/DJ Paul 'Shakiem' Beach.

"Losing his only means of support after the death of his mother led the rap artist, Divine, straight to a homeless shelter. The place were he pondered the words of his late mother and began to believe and live by them. Guided by her words, “you can do anything in life,” the soon to be rap star steps to the scene with a sound filled with knowledge and wisdom. All of which he demonstrated in his second release, For The Mother In You, back in 1995.
Divine has performed with the likes of Shyheim-The Rugged Child, Helltah Skeltah, Smif-N-Wessun, Black Moon and Wu-Tang Clan. Divine hosted a program called Hip Hop Count Down on WRTC FM in Hartford, Connecticut.
Divine describes his addition to the rap world as a style that is of a simple rhyme and beat that the young and old are yearning for and will ultimately identify with. He believes that rap is an art that requires the artist to maintain the ultimate confidence and to stand by their product.
Shakiem’s love of the hip-hop culture began by listening to cassettes tapes of groups like Charlie Chase and the Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Grandwizard Theodore and the Fantastic Five and Sharock with the Funky Four.
He would stay up ’til the wee hours of the night to record radio shows such as The Zulu Beats with Afrika Islaam as well as Mister Magic’s Rap Attack with Marley Marl.
He idolized the one member of these crews who held it all together – the DJ. His primary influence was the Grandmaster Flash, who inspired Shakiem to become a DJ."
The 12" is composed of 2 songs produced by A. Mathematics : "Fit In 2 My Structure (Radio Edit)" which is the lead single on the A-side also called the Knowledge Side and "Say Hi To The Bad Guy (Radio Edit)" on the B-side or the Wisdom Side.
