Chopped Herring Records are back with a dope EP entitled "The Potion 94-95 EP" fully produced by Kasem 'Mixture' Coleman. It contains unreleased tracks from groups or emcees such like Kasem The Pooper, Under Siege, Missing Link, Mixture, Massive Staff, The M.A.S. and Taboo.
This 12" was released by Sunz Of K.O.S.S. (acronym for Kleptomaniacs Of Savage Society) a group from New Jersey, consisted of Struggle E Stylez, Nite Madame Murda and Mr Toney who was their DJ.
Struggle E Stylez : "We all grew up in the same projects which was known as Little City, Illtown East Orange, home of Naughty By Nature. I was eight when I did my first show, I was rapping since age 5... Nite started rapping was she was like 11 also and Mr Toney started DJing at about Age 15..."
In 1995, they dropped the "Down Low Theory" EP on Vinyl and Cassette tape on S.S Entertainment (Struggling To Survive Ent.) a record label managed by Struggle E Stylez. All the tracks of the projects (4 songs + 1 instrumental) were produced by Kasem 'Mixture' Coleman for Noise System Entertainment, who also did the productions of the 12" released by the group T.H.U.G.G.Sthe same year, for those who remember. One of Mixture's limited part time jobs as a teenager was at Blockbuster, he met Struggle working there, that's how the connection happened between the emcee and the producer.
Mixture : "Well the EP was done at my studio in a studio apartment. A room full of gear and a sofa plus pull out couch to sleep in. I also recorded and produced Outsiders and Massive Staff there among others. They wanted a diverse selection of beats for it which I was able to provide. My favorite was "Shells of the 12 Gauge" song because it was the hardest... I like how I made the snare sound like a rapid fire gun !"
It was the only project released with Mixture on the production. In 1998, Sunz Of K.O.S.S. released a last EP entitled "Nervous Breakdown" with other producers and the group stopped after that.
Struggle E Stylez : "There was nothing else released by the group after the second 12" in 1998 because Nite went on to form a solo career and we formed our own record label. If you go on MTV and look under Nite Madame Murda, she was the only female to pretty much win that competition but she was disqualified for using profanity. We had a lot of success with her solo career. We also formed CNS Syndicate ..."
Struggle E Stylez is now a Life Coach and a Trainer, and he also still run his independent record label named Hybred Entertainment.Nite is now a Chef, she has her own business.
Mad Props to Mixture and Struggle, thank you both for your time.
