'Mecca & The Soul Brother' is the more iconic/important album, but Main Ingredient slowly became my favorite over the years.....for a lot of the same reasons I lean to ATCQ's Midnight Marauders over Low End Theory.
Pete's production went from a harder/dusty sound on MATSB, to a warm/melodic vibe on TMI. The samples Pete chose hit your soul in that sweet spot: from Cannonball Adderley on 'In The House', to George Benson on 'I Get Physical' + 'In The Flesh', to Roy Ayers on 'Searching'....masterful. " 30 Years ago, Tribe's 'Midnight Marauders' & Wu's 'Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)' were released on Nov. 9, 1993. For some, a hard decision had to be made that day: Do you go with the conscious vibes of Tribe, or the hard street raps of Wu? The familiar sound of ATCQ, or the debut from the mysterious guys wearing hoodies with stocking caps covering their faces? If you were lucky, you walked out of the store with both (paid or not).

Those 2 albums changed my life, so 5 years ago on the 25th anniversary I created 'A Clan Called Wu - Enter The Marauders' as a tribute to both masterpieces. This is the 2nd chamber in the Wu x Tribe blendtape saga. The 1st volume featured Wu's gritty vocals over the jazzy Midnight Marauders instrumentals. This is the reverse combo - Tribe's bouncy vocals over RZA's grimy production.

"On March 3rd 1989, De La Soul released their critically acclaimed debut album and Hip Hop music changed forever. At a time when samples of James Brown and breakbeat staples ruled supreme, De La Soul production partner Prince Paul cast the net far wider, snatching up snippets of vintage Soul, Rock n Roll, Disco, Spoken Word and children's records to create a collage the likes of which had not been heard before. Lyrically, the album married zany humor, real life observations and social commentary.
