Rasco - Time Waits for No Man (Special Edition Reissue) - 2025

 2xLP - 2025 - Coalmine Records

" Rasco’s Time Waits for No Man stands as a cornerstone of West Coast underground hip- hop, blending unflinching lyricism with top-tier production and a reverence for the culture. Originally released in 1998, the album marked the first full-length hip-hop project from the iconic Stones Throw Records, cementing their legacy as a launching pad for independent artists.

The album showcases Rasco’s no-nonsense approach, focusing heavily on his prowess as an emcee and his commitment to preserving hip- hop’s authenticity. With a commanding voice and sharp, no-frills lyricism, Rasco delivers on every track, ensuring his presence is felt throughout.

Guest appearances from underground heavyweights like Dilated Peoples, Defari, Encore, and Planet Asia, along with contributions from turntablists Vin Roc, DJ Revolution, DJ Babu, and D-Styles. Meanwhile, an all-star production roster featuring Peanut Butter Wolf, Paul Nice, Kut Masta Kurt, and Fanatik provides a sonic foundation that perfectly complements Rasco’s rugged delivery.

This Collector’s Edition 2XLP features the original artwork, enhanced with subtle rebranding elements by Mr. Krum to commemorate the reissue. Pressed on classic black vinyl, the release is sonically elevated through a fresh remaster by D-Sane of Digital Age Sound, giving this underground classic the long-overdue vinyl treatment it deserves " - courtesy of Coalmine Records

Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf ‎- Methods - 1993

In my opinion, "Methods" is one of the best Charizma's track. The song appeared on the 12" single "My World Premiere" recorded circa 1993 and released in 1996 on Stones Throw Records, three years after Charizma's tragic murder. The instrumental produced by Peanut Butter Wolf contains a sample of a song released in 1971 called "Dindi" performed by Willie Bobo and The Bo Gents.

"I think this was the last song we recorded before he passed away. Our earlier songs were all “hype” because it was that Black Sheep, “The Choice Is Yours”/House of Pain, “Jump Around”/ A Tribe Called Quest, “Scenario” era. But when we recorded this, hip-hop had started getting much slower and darker. Fittingly, musically, “Methods” is a very sad and emotional-sounding song, although I never could’ve predicted it’d be our last, or the reason for that. It was my idea to have it go 45 seconds before the drums come in, and Charizma actually integrated a line from a rap I wrote in 1987, when I wanted to be a rapper. Of course, he made it sound cooler than I ever could: “Dreaming of the usual, a rap beat.” I was so excited he used that line." - Courtesy of Peanut Butter Wolf Breaks Down His 10 Favorite Songs From the Charizma Box Set - Spin Magazine - May 22nd 2014

The wax isn't really very rare, by the way the vinyl is still available on the Stones Throw website for a cheap price

Various Blends :

According to Steve Huey, "Various Blends were originally formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991, and consisted of MCs/producers Friz-B and Eb.F (both friends from childhood) and MC Rasco. They grew out of a previous group called Children of One Destiny, which also included future solo artist Saafir."

In 1996, the trio released a 12" single "Chill as I Flex / The Dopess" released on Khalif International and produced by Friz-B a.k.a The Real S.K.

12" - 1996 - Khalif International

"They went on hiatus when Rasco departed for a solo career the following year (he would go on to record for Peanut Butter Wolf's Stones Throw label). In the meantime, Eb.F DJed around the area under the name DJ Rasta Cue Tip, and he and Friz-B reconvened as Various Blends in 1999."

They dropped the same year their next single, "Krazee Madeo Stylez / Pick a Chemical" on the Berkeley based label Baraka Foundation. Friz-B still on the productions and cuts by the  Invisibl Skratch Piklz member, Dj Apollo.

12" - 1999 - Baraka Foundation

"With production by both group members, as well as Peanut Butter Wolf, and turntable contributions from DJ Serg, Various Blends finally issued their first full-length album, Levitude, on Baraka in late 1999. It gained favorable reviews for its inventive, trippy production, but not much exposure."
The album is composed of 13 tracks and features artists like Rashinel, Saafir, Pismo (Burnt Batch), Del Tha Funkee Homosapien & Mystik Journeymen.

After that, the group dropped few 12" singles, but all the tracks were from the Levitude album, so nothing new until their last release in 2003 on No Mayo Records.
