Video : Science Of Sound - It Ain't Safe - 2021

"The Brooklyn-based trio drops their first video for "It Ain't Safe" from the classic LP, Kaleidoscope Phonetics. The powerful song was produced by none other than Q- Tip of A Tribe Called Quest in 1995. It's accompanied by a video that artistically reflects the ills of community-based violence ravaging urban neighborhoods across the country at the time but still rings true today. In the opening scene, we have special guest appearances from anti-gun violence organizations Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) and Man Up Inc. as they lead the charge to make the communities safe again. Tyke-0 and Peter Chan Rap over reflective projected images highlighting the song's lyrics as DJ Beetle takes command of the 1’s and 2’s on a platform, dawning the group's iconic logo.  Outside of a few rare images of Science of Sound, the enigmatic group has been heard for years minus any real visuals. The powerful video with a gripping message gives fans a long-awaited look at the trio just in time for Gun Violence Awareness Month. This video will give fans what they have been waiting for and leave them asking for more." - courtesy of Science Of Sound Music

Science Of Sound - Kaleidoscope Phonetics LP - 2020

2xLP - 2020 - 90's Tapes / HHV

The Bedstuy-based group S.O.S aka Science Of Sound consisting of Tike-O, Peter Chan & DJ Beetle finally drop their debut album "Kaleidoscope Phonetics" originally released in 1995 on a white label.

"Here it is, one of THE lost albums from the golden era of Hip Hop: Science Of Sound's "Kaleidoscope Phonetics" from the Tribe Called Quest-sphere. With productions and cameos by A Tribe Called Quest and Phife Dawg, Godfather Don, Grandmaster Melle Mel and more. This is true-school rap at its finest and should not be missed by any fan of the classic 90's vibe."

Here's what Ali Shaheed Muhammad is saying about it:

"Science Of Sound, a group established during the 90's "golden era" of Hip Hop. These guys are my family. We were very excited when they signed their record deal and greatly disappointed their label mishandled them. This is the lost album that was recorded in the time I was working on "Beats, Rhymes & Life". There was a lot of back in forth between Tribe's sessions and S.O.S.'s sessions. You can hear the levels they were on and it's as fresh as 20+ years later as it was when it was recorded. Any proponent of golden era Hip Hop will appreciate this find of a lost album." - Ali Shaheed Muhammad, September 3rd, 2020

"Strictly limited edition of 100 bundles consisting of a black Science Of Sound logo tee plus the colored 2LP vinyl (limited to 500 copies in total) and 500 black vinyl in a gatefold set incl. inlay card + sticker. Also available on limited CD and cassette as well as digitally!" - courtesy of 90's Tapes

Science Of Sound ‎- Kaleidoscope Phonetics - 1995

LP - 1995 - White Label  (Photo courtesy of Kai Karlongo)

If there is a very rare album that we all need in our collection, it is this one ... "Kaleidoscope Phonetics" released in 1995 by the Bedstuy-based group Science Of Sound a.k.a S.O.S.

The group consisted of Tike-O, Peter Chan and DJ Beetle. They all grew up in the same neighborhood, Tike-O and Chan in the same projects and Beetle lived around the corner, that's how they met.

In terms of Production, the tracks were produced by Ali and Q-tip from A Tribe Called Quest, Godfather Don, Prestige from Bad Boys Hitmen and DJ Beetle.

It was only released on a white label... an official release never saw the light of day unfortunately...

Science Of Sound ‎- Science Of Sound - 1995

12" - 1995 - Science Of Sound

S.O.S aka Science Of Sound  from Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, formed by two emcees and a DJ, with close connections to A Tribe Called Quest. In 1995 they independently released through their own Science Of Sound imprint a 12″ which included a song called “It Ain’t Safe” produced by ATCQ, and a song called “Who Got The Funk” featuring Phife Dawg
For info Bobbito played the demo on a S&B Show in December 1995.
