Scienz Of Life & Figub Brazlevic - Leviathan (The Remixes) - 2026

After 15 years buried in the vault, "Leviathan" resurfaces. Originally started in 2009, Scienz Of Life's album gets a full reconstruction at the hands of German producer Figub Brazlevic, in collaboration with Krekpek Records. What started back then was left dormant for years, until Figub decided to strip it down and rebuild it from scratch.

The release also features two remixes from trusted names Parental and KOE The Flavekid. Built on years of mutual respect and creative chemistry between Scienz Of Life and Figub Brazlevic, this rework is just another chapter in an ongoing collaboration, with a brand new Scienz Of Life album already taking shape.

Belton Haig - The Baddest - 1998

Big shout out to Ill Mind for recently putting me back onto this cat named Belton Haig out of New Jersey and his ill joint "The Baddest" dropped in 1998. Sadly, the track never got a physical release at the time, just a video shot by Douglas Ingber that aired on his Video City TV show back then.

All I know about Belton Haig is that he was an emcee originally from Newark, NJ, later holding it down in East Orange. He also went by BC a.k.a. Da Lefty Bandit. After that, he dropped another single called "Can't Take It Witcha". Same deal, a video shot by Doug Ingber but still no physical release. Since a few other joints were recorded, I'm just wondering if a full album exists...

The Bang-Bang Poet 24-7

Let's talk about the Philadelphia '90s indie hip-hop scene, focusing on the 12-inch releases by the MC known as 24-7 a.k.a. The Bang-Bang Poet 24-7 a.k.a. DJ Nicky Butters.

His musical journey began in high school, where he developed his skills as both a DJ and an MC. He first emerged as a member of the group Versatile Uptown, before becoming the DJ for Craig Irving, prior to Irving's rise to prominence as Doodlebug of the acclaimed group Digable Planets. Following a brief hiatus, he returned to the scene under the name 24-7, releasing his first 12-inch record with his crew, 24-7 and the Hoodfellas. He later adopted the moniker The Bang-Bang Poet 24-7, marking the next phase of his artistic evolution.

His first single "Let's Have It" came out in 1993 on the Homicide Records label, and was produced by Black Hollywood Productions. His second 12-inch "Unbelievable / Here Comes The Bang-Bang Poet" came out in 1994 on Everglade Records, and was produced by 24-7 and Power. Both records were mixed and engineered by Philly legend DJ Miz. Both records are definitely something to own in your record collection.

DJ Eli & Shan Boogs ‎- Cloudkickers - 1999

12" - 1999 - Fondle 'Em

Cloudkickers was a New York-based production duo, composed of Eli Escobar a.k.a. DJ Eli and Shan Nicholson a.k.a. Shan Boogs. They began their musical journey in New York City during the 90s, at a time when hip-hop culture was deeply embedded in the city's identity. Growing up surrounded by rap, graffiti, mixtapes and record digging, they developed an early passion for hip-hop beats, sampling and DJ culture.

In 1999, they released the Cloudkickers EP on Bobbito's Fondle 'Em Records label. It includes the tracks "And So Kiddies..." (Dirty, Clean & Instrumental) featuring Cage, "Truly Gifted Ones" (Dirty & Instrumental) featuring J-Treds, Pumpkinhead (RIP) and Yeshua Dapo ED, "Lay Puzzled", as well as three untitled instrumentals. All the scratches are handled by DJ Daze.

I imagine that the connection with Bobbito and Fondle'Em Records came about quite naturally, due to the fact that DJ Eli was also a radio host on 89Tec9 WKCR. Indeed, he hosted the Night Train Radio Show on Tuesday nights from 1am-5am in 1997-1998, alongside Apex of Dujeous, Kinetic of Arsonists and Nasty Vaz.
Circa 1997, Bobbito ran a shop called Bobbito's Footwork on the Lower East Side (323 East 9th Street), selling records, clothing and sneakers. The connection between Bobbito and DJ Eli could have been established during this period as well, as DJ Eli could have worked at the Footwork store.

Cloudkickers EP is easy to find and still fairly inexpensive... I recommend it, it's one of my favorite 12" on the Fondle 'Em Records label. And for fans of all those bullshits, it's worth noting that the track "And So Kiddies..." is considered to be at the origin of the beef between Cage and Eminem.

The duo also released another interesting double vinyl in the early 2000s, called the Cloudkickers Remix EP. It features remixes of artists such as Redman, Big L, Don Scavone, Teflon, NaS... among others. Another wax to catch for your collection !

Raw Material - Teen Scream - 1993

12" - 1993 - GNU Breed Records

Raw Material was a three man group comprised of A-SWIFT, ROB-FLOW and P.O. POP  from Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Their first and only 12" was released in 1993 on Gnu Breed Records. The single also came out on cassette tape. For those who don't remember, this is the same independent label that released the excellent Yasheen & The Murder-1 Squad EP in 1994. It was run by Bob Bish.

Raw Material's debut 12" consists of 2 tracks : "Teen Scream" (Original, Instrumental & Radio Edit) produced in 1993 by Mark 'Boogie' Brown on the A-side and "Face Before The Pookie" (Original, Instrumental & Radio Edit) produced in 1992 by Frank Nitty for Trackmasterz on the B-side.

I tried to find more information about this group but couldn't come up with anything. I spoke with Mark 'Boogie' Brown, but unfortunately he doesn't remember much. All I know is that Bob Bish introduced them to Mark 'Boogie' Brown. At the time, he was selling studio time and producing as well as selling beats, but Boogie haven't seen the group members since. I was also in contact with Robin Hannibal, who was their stylist for the photo used on the cassette cover, but she doesn't recall anything about the group...
