Masta Ace & Tom Caruana - Natural Forces - 2025

" Hip-Hop legend Masta Ace gets remixed by remix mastermind Tom Caruana (Wu-Tang vs The Beatles / Jimi Hendrix). Tom remixes material predominantly from the Masta Ace Incorporated era, as well as other stages in Ace’s career. What makes this project unique is the addition of 2 brand new tracks by Masta Ace, ‘Freedom House’ & ‘Uncle Larry’ which both see Ace in a retrospective mood.

The album flows like a live show with soundbites and skits from both parties. There’s tracks with Guru, Phonte, Wordsworth, Edo G, Torae, Stricklin and Large Professor. Ace and guests flow as if they were there onstage with the band creating cosmic vibes to the soundscape of kalimbas, vocal harmonies, funky basslines and banging drums! Declaime x Madlib - In the Beginning Vol. 1 LP - 2021

LP - 2021 - Fat Beats Records / SomeOthaShip Connect

" ‘In the Beginning (Vol. 1)’ is a treasure trove of the early works of Declaime & Madlib, the longtime collaborators who helped usher in a new sound and style from the city of Oxnard, Calif. This collection is brimming with previously unheard tracks from this beyond-creative duo that blends hip-hop with funk, jazz, soul, and psychedelia to lay the groundwork for so many other emcees and producers.

For Declaime (a/k/a Dudley Perkins), this project serves as a way to honor his friends and the city that raised them. He shouts out names like The Almighty Metaphor (aka MED), Oh No the Disrupt, DJ Romes, Kazi, and more, who he says “created a lane for the city of Oxnard to get the recognition it deserves.” Some of them make an appearance in one form or another on this collection, too—Romes, for example, mastered the project—that compiles 13 previously lost tracks that were recorded from 1993 to ‘96.

‘In The Beginning’ is entirely produced by Madlib, who provided all the cuts as well. His instrumentals are on that raw and dusty vibe as they move freely through genres and sounds, like on standout cuts “Madman,” “Black,” and “All Over the World (feat MED).” Those are all highlights for Declaime, too, and they demonstrate his ability to blend his observations of the world with bravado and third-eye insights. Even as young kids just getting their feet wet in the studio, these two were firmly on their path.

That path started, in a way, when the two became friends as young kids. “I first met Madlib when he moved across the street from me; I was around nine years old at the time,” Declaime says, adding that their fathers were friendly with one another. Despite the two losing touch after Madlib’s family moved, they reconnected just a few years later and the rest is musical history.

‘In The Beginning (Vol. 1)’ is available now for pre-order and officially drops on Friday, July 02 on vinyl, CD and through all major DSPs via SomeOthaShip Connect in partnership with Fat Beats Records! " - courtesy of SomeOthaShip Connect

Fat Beats 25th Anniversary Show

If you're in NYC on Sunday July 14, 2019, you need to go the Sony Hall NYC to celebrate the Fat Beats 25th Anniversary. A once in a lifetime event hosted by Lord Sear and DJ Eclipse !

"Fat Beats began as a small basement shop located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. We quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate. Our retail stores spread from New York to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Amsterdam, and Tokyo and alongside retail expansion we developed into a wholesale distribution company & record label.
Despite market fluctuations, technological innovations and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats; as a distributor, record label, online storefront, and retail store, continues to thrive. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the timeless vinyl format and the loyal community who keeps it spinning.

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.

In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning."

ILL BILL & Stu Bangas - Cannibal Hulk - 2019

LP - 2019 - Uncle Howie Records / Fat Beats Records

"Cannibal Hulk is the collaboration between producer Stu Bangas and lyricist ILL BILL. Prior to ever working together both Bill and Stu traveled in similar circles. Both heavily worked with Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks/AOTP) which led to Stu being on Bill's The Grimy Awards and Bill being featured on Stu’s albums with Esoteric and Blacastan. Having worked together on those tracks is what led to the manifestation of this project. Add to the scenario their love of comic books and the concept Cannibal Hulk was born. With both feeling most at home with aggressive music, this album sonically sounds exactly as its title indicates. Can Hulk features Vinnie Paz, Goretex, Slaine, Snak The Ripper and DJ Eclipse."

Black Moon - Enta Da Stage: The Complete Edition - 2017

"The Enta Da Stage: The Complete Edition bundle includes the LP, CD and cassette copies of the Enta Da Stage: The Complete Edition, each enclosed in a deluxe hard case box.
Each variant features the original album, Da Beatminerz instrumentals and remixes across six LPs, three CDs and three cassettes, respectively, along with an 18-page booklet with new interviews, extensive liner notes, and unreleased photos from the original Enta Da Stage photo shoot and additional visual ephemera.
The vinyl and cassette releases are limited to 1,000 and 500 copies, respectively.
Composed of members Buckshot, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee, Black Moon simultaneously kicked off and defined the rap renaissance of New York with the release of Enta Da Stage in 1993. Whereas plenty of earlier groups had spit rage-filled rhymes to tear down the world’s unjust establishments, no one had evoked brooding pathos or introspective anger quite like Black Moon. Underground hip-hop might have been dominated by the sunny sound of G-Funk when Enta Da Stage dropped, but from then on the scene turned to the dark side. Black Moon was rising.
Working closely with the original members, Fat Beats Records is proud to present the definitive Enta Da Stage box set. Reissued for the first time across three formats – 6xLP, 3xCD, and 3xCassette – this album is the complete encapsulation of an era for anyone seeking to understand the origin and the essence of New York’s Golden Age. All formats include the Da Beatminerz (Evil Dee and Mr. Walt) instrumentals and remixes, plus extensive liner notes by David Ma (Pitchfork, Wax Poetics) with rare and unreleased visual ephemera in an 18 page booklet. The story of Black Moon, alongside their peers Biggie, Big L, Nas, Kool G Rap, and Wu Tang, reminds us that the bleakest times produce the most profound agents of cultural change. And as we stand at the precipice of a new age of anxiety, Enta Da Stage has never been more relevant… or more necessary.
Although Black Moon would go on to release three more albums – and its members would go on to greatness with Da Beatminerz, Boot Camp Klik, and various solo projects – Enta Da Stage remains the perfect distillation of tight lyrical menace, rowdy crew hooks, stripped down breaks, and deep basslines on all of its fourteen tracks. Although Enta Da Stage might stand in the shadow of East Coast albums such as Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Illmatic, Liquid Swords, Ready to Die, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, and The Infamous, history will remember that Enta da Stage preceded those releases. To understand Enta Da Stage is to understand the origin and the spirit of New York hip-hop once and for all."
