MF GRIMM - Scars & Memories - 2025

2xLP - 2025 - HHE

In 2005, MF Grimm released "Scars & Memories", a unique project that lies somewhere between a compilation, a personal memoir, and an act of redemption. More than just an album, it stands as a sonic testimony to a life scarred but not silenced.

A survivor of an attempted murder, a former drug dealer, and confined to a wheelchair since 1994, he represents a darker often overlooked side of New York’s hip-hop landscape. "Scars & Memories" acts like an audio museum of his chaotic life made of rare and unreleased tracks recorded between 1990 and 2005.

In collaboration with MF Grimm, Hip-Hop Enterprise is now proud to present you a limited reissue on vinyl, CD and for the first time on tape as well. Don't Sleep Fellas!

Highlight on Running Rebels

Let's give some highlight to this group called Running Rebels... you can listen to one of their demos entitled "Theezz Nuts" on the Smoke Flavors mixtape that was recently dropped by DJ OG-S & Fatcap.

Running Rebels was a group from the South Bronx comprised of Uptown, Snoop, Ill Phill (RIP), Junie, K Off & Dammien (RIP). They formed the group in 1991 and they recorded a 3-Track demo tape around 1991-1992 that was uploaded on Skylar's youtube channel a few years ago.

Running Rebels was one of those bands that had real potential but completely disappeared from the indie hip-hop music scene. Those tracks are the only official material recorded by the group. Recently I was in contact with Uptown who was down to answer a few questions :

Uptown, Do you remember where the name Running Rebels comes from ? is there a story behind this name ?

Uptown : " The Running Rebels was a name Phill gave me, Snoop and Dammien because at that time we were very wild and didn't give a fuck about nothing so that's where the name came from. "

Could you tell me how the connection happened between all the members ?

Uptown : " My connection came from battle rapping in high school that's where I met a young MC, which was Sammy a.k.a Snoop. So I started mentoring him, making him write every day until he got nice like me. So we formed a group called 2 the Hardway. Now it was time for us to start recording songs that we were writing that's how we met the late ill Phil which was the one making the beats. Phill had his own thing going already with his boy Junie and they had an ill MC named K Off, he was nice. So me and Snoop would go to the crib to pre produce our music before going to the actual studio, so one day Phill people's Johnny brought his which was the late Dammien to the crib to record their own song the same day me and Snoop, Junie and K Off were there. So Phill just threw this new beat he just made on and told everyone to write a verse to it, it came out dope (Rebels Kick Da Phat Shit) and that's how the group was formed on 154st Elton ave. "

Did you try to sign with a record label after that ?

Uptown : " Absolutely but as a solo artist years after that. At that time we almost got signed but the people managing us was more worried about how to jerk us that they tucked everything up. I was only 18 at that time with no knowledge of the business part of the game. "

Have you ever thought of releasing your old demos on vinyl nowadays ?

Uptown : " I don't have access to those demos that was many moons ago, it's only 4 members alive me included and it was Junie that found of our demo songs on YouTube... "

You'll understand that there's practically no chance of seeing a vinyl reissue of these demos... it's a shame because the 3 demos were good quality in my opinion.

For the story, in 1992 Running Rebels were in a showcase that was held in Cami Hall, they were introduced and went up against Ruck and Rock of Heltah Skeltah right before they got put on, they came in 2nd place that year.

Mad Props to Uptown, thanks for your time.

Mimetizm - Mad Props - 2025

Parisian beatmaker Mimetizm delivers a powerful homage to the golden era of East Coast rap with his latest project entitled "Mad Props". This remix album is a time capsule that breathes new life into some of the most iconic voices of 90s hip-hop, drawing from an impeccable selection of East Coast legends : Mobb Deep, Showbiz & A.G., Jeru the Damaja, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Da Youngsta's, Smif-N-Wessun, Artifacts, and Nas... just to name a few.

"Mad Props" is exactly what its title suggests, a salute, a nod, a heartfelt acknowledgment of those who paved the way, all delivered through the lens of a skilled and deeply passionate producer. Enjoy !

Keith Nut's Tribute

I'd like to pay tribute to the legendary emcee Keith Arthur Joynes, better known under the name Keith Nut (a.k.a Kieth Kieth, a.k.a Keef Nutt) from Forest Houses, South Bronx. I've been looking for him for years for an interview but I've recently learned that he passed away last year after battling with cancer.

If the name of Keith Nut doesn't speak to you, you need to know that he was an original member of the Terror Squad with Fat Joe. They were raised in the same building, 1000 Trinity in Forest Houses.

To make a recap about his musical career, Keith Nut made his first appearance in 1993 alongside Fat Joe on the track "Another Wild N**r from the Bronx", under the name Kieth Kieth. The track was part of Fat Joe's debut album "Represent" released on Relativity Records.

He later featured again with Fat Joe on a few freestyles broadcast on the Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show on WKCR in 1994-1995 or on a few mixtapes. By the way his demo played by Bobbito in 1995 is a little gem ! He also features on Fat Joe's second album "Jealous One's Envy" released in 1995 and on the album dropped by the Terror Squad in 1999.

In the late 90s, Fat Joe and Keith Nut went separate ways. Keith Nut just stopped spitting and disappeared from the NYC hip-hop scene. He didn't record any songs after that. He dedicated himself to his family life and his various jobs, either at Yankee Stadium or at the hospital... Rest In Peace !

Karbine - Street Politics - 2025

The young NYC-based beatmaker KARBINE returns with "Street Politics", a gritty 13-track project that proves his deep-rooted mastery of the 90s boom-bap aesthetic. With dusty drums, chopped-up samples, and hard-hitting loops, KARBINE delivers a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh, authentic to the golden era.

The album features Ace SL, Rome Streetz, Hahyeem, Plaza718, Mellow NYC, Rigz, M.A.V., Al-Doe and Fastlife. Each MC brings their own flavor, but it's KARBINE's cohesive production that ties it all together, creating a raw cinematic atmosphere throughout the album.

Whether you're a longtime fan of classic East Coast hip-hop or just discovering the new wave of underground talent, "Street Politics" is a compelling listen. It's a reminder that the art of true beatmaking is alive and well, and KARBINE is one of the names keeping that flame burning in New York City. Respect is due !
