Blu & Damu The Fudgemunk - Ground & Water - 2019
EP - 2019 - Redefinition Records
"Ground & Water" is the brand new project released by Blu and Damu the Fudgemunk. This 8-Track EP released on limited edition colored vinyl is now available for pre-order. It's certainly one of the best releases of the week... Don't sleep !!!!
" “Like all my releases, most of which are instrumental, I wanted the music to tell a story. With Blu being the voice, he set the tone for us both to bring this to life.”—Damu The Fudgemunk on his new project with Blu, Ground & Water
With Ground & Water, Blu and Damu The Fudgemunk have released yet another standout project as part of their already-incredibly noteworthy catalogues. But this time, they’ve done it together. After collaborating in different ways over the years, the two joined forces for a release that’s every bit as dope as you’d hope considering who’s involved. From the Los Angeles rapper’s tight-as-ever rhymes to the Washington, D.C. native’s crunchy production, Ground & Water captures exactly why Blu and Damu are so revered.
For Damu, that meant diving into the storied discography of his new partner-in-rhyme. While the producer always thought highly of the emcee’s talents, he says he realized that Blu’s much greater than people give him credit for. That led to the excitement of creating Ground & Water, because Damu knew he’d get to tell a story through a cohesive release. The story is one that treads personal, introspective territory that Blu delivers like only he can.
On standout track “Share The Love,” Blu and guest Raw Poetic (one of Damu’s frequent collaborators) tackle the dusty, meditative production with thoughtful raps about wanting to see the world in a better place with inspirational lines like, "Stop being so tight, and be more lovable/ I guarantee more opportunities open up for you." Similarly, Blu bares his soul on instant highlights “Feet on the Ground,” “Rhymes & Gemstones,” and “Greyheaven." His verses take a deep dive into relatable topics like faith, guilt, spirituality, humility, and so much more, proving that his pen game is as sharp as ever.
“When you listen to the lyrics and digest the subject matter, there's a lot of depth in his words,” Damu says of his collaborator. “I wanted to provide a similar depth in the music.” To say he matched Blu’s efforts would be an understatement, which you could find out for yourself right now, by heading over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform and giving the project a spin. The project, whose stunning artwork is designed by the legendary Joe Buck (De La Soul is Dead), will also be available in the coming weeks on vinyl, CD and cassette, through Redefinition Records." - Redefinition Records

Damu The Fudgemunk & MF DOOM - Coco Mango Diced 7" - 2019
7" - 2019 - R3DEF
01 - Coco Mango Sliced - MF DOOM - (Power Outage Remix Vocal Version)
02 - Coco Mango Sliced - MF DOOM - (Power Outage Remix Instrumental)
03 - Coco Mango Diced - MF DOOM - (Boy Scout Remix ft Insight)
"In 2011, Paris based production duo the Union collaborated with Doom for their album, Analogtronics on the single, "Coco Mango". This track would be remixed by DC's, Damu the Fudgemunk for a limited 7" that sold out in two weeks and became an underground smash in it's own right. Being a DOOM and Madvillain fan, Damu took to the opportunity to lay 2 remixes both inspired specifically by Madvillain's track "Rhinestone Cowboy".
The results are commonly dubbed "CoCo Mango Sliced" (power outage mix) and "Coco Mango Diced" (boyscout mix). Coco Mango Sliced enlisted a sharp guest verse from Boston's Insight the Truncator. Fun fact: While producing the remixes, Damu lost power in his studio literally after recording a demo of the the first mix and lost the unsaved be in his MPC. That 2 track demo would become what was published, hence the (power outage mix). Instead of recreating the exact same beat he lost, Damu took the same sample and put a different swing on it, giving us remix number 2 (boyscout mix).
Since its original release, these remixes have become known as "the DOOM record you've never heard" due to it's short shelf life. Though a repress would've made perfect sense in 2011, it's now 2019 and these tracks are finally getting a proper reissue. The cover art was handled by well known artist Joe Buck of De La Soul fame and pays homage to DOOM using his signature hand drawn technique accenting a classic masked photo of Damu the Fudgemunk. Everything about this record screams high quality hip hop." - Redefinition Records

Damu the Fudgemunk's 20 Favorite Sample Flips - 2017
LP - 2017 - R3DEF
"First time on vinyl! Previously only available on cassette or soundcloud. This one take, all-vinyl mixtape was created by Damu The Fudgemunk in 2014 for the legendary (but now defunct) Ego Trip Magazine's "Top 10 Sample Flips" feature, in which he highlighted and analyzed his favorite sample flips ... 10 wasn't enough so he highlighted his favorite 20. Consider this the soundtrack / companion piece to the written article. The mix consists of classic rap songs mixed along with the original samples that were used to construct the beats."

Insight & Damu The Fudgemunk (Y Society) - Never Off / Pyramids 7" - 2017
7" - 2017 - Redefinition Records
- A: Never Off (2017 Mix)
- B: Pyramids to the Ghetto (Previously unreleased!)
"Known to many as the group Y Society, Insight the Truncator and Damu the Fudgemunk celebrate 10 plus years of friendship and a creative partnership that hold the two in high esteem of their fans. The MC & producer's new 7" is a compelling display of why the duo have always been at the top of their game despite their reserved output since debuting as a team in 2007. Surprising the world at the top of the year with their full length, "Ears Hear Spears" was a great way to sound the alarm for the excitement of new activity. Selective by nature, Insight and Damu's calculations have served advantageous in making moves and presenting listeners with the right music at the right time. The latest incarnation of this truth can be heard in the previously unreleased b-side track entitled "Pyramids to the Ghetto." Although it was recorded in 2008, it was archived and remained unreleased until now. Now in 2017 this particular song couldn't be any more relevant in how the artists analyze the effects racism of the past & present and it's correlation to black plight throughout the Americas (both Insight & Damu drop verses on this track). Continuing narratives of such legends as Public Enemy and Jeru the Damaja in which the track title quotes, the group individually presents short essays in rhyme form that give a candid account of what..." "Redefinition Records is proud to release the latest project from one of hip hop's most multi-talented artists, Insight the Truncator aka Andre Todman. Insight returns to the spotlight after a departure from the industry in recent years. Where was he and what was he up to? Well after a decade and a half in the business, dozens of respected records, countless national and international tours, Insight took a well deserved hiatus to try other endeavors such as app development, electronics and social media strategizing, areas in which he found great success. This shouldn't surprise longtime fans who may remember in as early as 1997, Insight created his own website, Insight.fm which featured an interactive SP1200 and forums. This was rare during the pre-social media era, long before having a web presence was a part of an artist’s everyday operation. Building a strong reputation for his live performance, his on-stage capabilities included not only rapping, but also producing, DJing, and even live drawing-while-freestyling and interacting with audience members. The triple threat from Boston (MC / DJ / Producer) has dedicated his life to his creativity and his diverse portfolio and resume is a true testament to the kind person Insight is on and off of his recordings. Credited for mentoring and being instrumental in the career beginnings of many of the staples of Boston’s current Hip Hop scene, and beyond, Insight also assisted a young D.C. native known as Damu the Fudgemunk, who later matured into an esteemed solo artist in his own right (and co-owner of Redefinition records). The 2 would first collaborate on one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 2000's as Y Society on 2007's full length, Travel at Your Own Pace. Through this collaboration they formed a brotherhood that today is well into its second decade, bookmarked by this latest release. On Ears Hear Spears, “The Truncator” passionately speaks his mind through rhyme while “The Fudgemunk” handles all production. Throughout 10 outstanding tracks Insight delivers a diverse lyrical exhibition over a then 20-21 year old Damu the Fudgemunk's beats. There's an undeniable level of directness and sincerity in his lyrics which are artfully assembled in a manner that will astonish literary buffs, yet permeate the lives of everyday listeners alike."
