Darcsyde - Pretender - 1998

12" - 1998 - Black Hand Ent.

Darcsyde was a rap duo from Baisley Park Houses, a housing project in South Jamaica, Queens, NY. The group consisted of Royce "Sinista" Michaels and Jamal "Doc" Doctor.

First time I've heard about them was when they dropped their first track "Moneycide" in 1996 on the excellent various compilation entitled "Nodyaheadtodis Vol. 1" produced by Brent "Faraoh" Toussaint.

This wax is the 3rd 12" released by the group. It came out in 1998 on Black Hand Entertainment, a record label managed by Charles "Chaz" Williams a.k.a Black Hand Chaz, a famous Gangster known for many Bank Robberies in the 70s. Chaz passed away in 2019... RIP.

The tracks pressed on this 12" are "What!"(Radio Edit, Film track and Street version) and "Pretender" (Street version), both fully produced by Tyrone (Ty) Fyffe for Sugarless Entertainment. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the main single "What!"... and the track "Pretender" is definitely the only reason to buy this record.

For the info, "The Best That Never Happened", a Darcsyde Documentary is coming soon ... stay tuned !
