90‘s Tapes Radio Show #013 - with Southpaw

" Welcome to our 13th episode of the 90's Tapes Radio Show! Slight line up changes this time. J-Ruff (90's Tapes Team) will take care of the hosting part with active support in the recording process from his long time homie DJ Frenetikk (121 Crew). Both of them also shared turntable duties with Frenetikk bringing a mix of mostly classic golden era material while J-Ruff blended some indy favorites on the wheels of steel.

Special guest of the show is Wil Champion of the group Southpaw from Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in the early ninties with his childhood friend Pro-K, Southpaw delivered two albums with Left Hand Rule (1993) and Left Hook (1997) which became fan favorites among underground heads and indy collectors.

Enjoy 90 minutes of head nodding heat for your listening pleasure. Peep the flava! " - courtesy of 90's Tapes Radio Show

DJ Cosm - Rome / Leave The Bells / All Or Nothing - 2025

A1 - Rome (ft. Daniel Son & Saipher Soze)

A2 - Leave the Bells (ft. Halfcut & Ghettosocks)

B1 - All or Nothing (ft. Adam Bomb, Merkules, Fortified Mind & Halfcut)

Calgary's own DJ Cosm has been a student of hip-hop culture from an early age. He has hosted the campus radio mixshow, The Main Ingredient (fka Mental Illness) on Cjsw 90.9 FM Calgary since 1998, and is the DJ half of the accomplished rap duo, Dragon Fli Empire. DJ/producer Cosm showcases both his golden era roots and appreciation for modern boom bap production on his latest 7” release, featuring three bangers from his CD/digital only album, "Natural Within". Cosm lends the perfect sinister mood for Daniel Son and Saipher Soze to get busy on the hard-hitting joint, "Rome". Halfcut and Ghettosocks join forces for the funky boom bap banger "Leave the Bells" with DJ Cosm providing his signature scratches. On the b-side track "All or Nothing", Cosm laces a booming break that unleashes lyrical carnage from Adam Bomb, Mercules, Fortified Mind, and Halfcut. " - courtesy of Ill Adrenaline Records

Southpaw / Ase Man - Triple Drop

3xLPs - 2025 - 90's Tapes / HHV

What a day ... 90's Tapes are back with the reissue of 3 albums from the Apex Crew members Southpaw and Ase Man representing Cleveland, Ohio. I've been waiting for a reissue of the albums "Left Hand Rule" and "Left Hook" for a long time, now it's done !

" Southpaw, the duo comprised of Wil Champion & Pro-K, delivered two certified classics in the mid 90's, handling both the production and rhyme part on their own. "Left Hand Rule" marked their debut in 1993, released in limited runs on vinyl, CD and cassette. Our release contains an alternate cover image from the original photo session.

In 1997, the sophomore album "Left Hook" dropped in limited runs on CD and cassette. Next to the original 12 tracks, the full album includes all instrumental versions sourced from the original DAT's.

Southpaw's longtime friend and Apex Crew member Ase Man originally dropped his CD-only debut "Step Into The A.M." in 1997. Wil Champion handled the productions, Pro-K served the cuts and Ase Man delivered the rhymes with features by Paradox & Lynes. Next to the original 12 tracks, the full album also includes all instrumental versions sourced from the original DAT's similar to Southpaw's "Left Hook". " - courtesy of 90's Tapes

Available in a limited run each on 2LP/3LP (300 copies each), CD/2CD in jewel case (300 copies each) and MC/2MC (100 copies each).

TONY D Presents Black Prince & Aziatic - The Roger Gardens EP 1993

Trenton, New Jersey delivered a batch of good hip-hop artists during the 90s... Poor Righteous Teachers, YZ, Blvd Mosse, Blaque Spurm, Dungeon Lordz or the late Tony D (RIP) who has established himself as one of the most creative and successful producers in rap coming from this area.

In 1993, Tony D recorded a few tracks with a duo called Black Prince & Aziatic from Roger Gardens housing projects, Trenton, NJ.

About Black Prince & Aziatic, they met in Kindergarten and have been best friends/brothers since. Black Prince was always a rapper growing up and Aziatic's mother bought him some turntables for six grade graduation, from there they studied the art of hip-hop everyday. They did graffiti, they jumped on trains and snucked to NY, 12-13 years old they submerged themselves in culture.

The connection with Tony D came from Black Prince being around at a young age... he was about 12-13 first time he recorded with Tony D,  but unfortunately he was too young to drop a first official release. That's the main reason why all those unreleased tracks never came out at the time.

In 2016, their unreleased tracks fully produced by Tony D were dropped on vinyl on Cha-Ching Records with the help of Calvin "Trouble" Jones and his Redline Music Distribution, Inc. The EP contains 6 tracks and features the group S.B.T. on the last one. This group was comprised of Freedom, D Sabree & Ciph, who were friends from school. This EP is really good, so I invite you to grab one asap if you had missed it when it came out !

Emma Lee M.C. & Roccwell feat. Bahamadia - Cravings & Withdrawals - (Retrogott Rmx)

" The underground hit single "Cravings & Withdrawals" by Emma M.C. & Roccwell featuring Gang Starr Foundation member Bahamadia (taken off the critically acclaimed mini-album "Chocolate Bars" released on Ill Adrenaline Records, 2024), gets the remix treatment by none other than legendary German MC, producer, DJ, and author Retrogott. Currently the single is a digital release with plans of a limited edition 7" vinyl release on the way.

The original track has already made massive waves in the indie hip-hop scene, topping the Hiphopgods Radio charts. Emma Lee M.C. even appeared as a guest on Roxanne Shante's "Have a Nice Day" radio show on Sirius XM/Rock the Bells Radio to further promote "Chocolate Bars" and her new book "Y'All (Not) Gon' Make Me Lose My Mind: Notes from a Hip-Hop Unicorn & Suicide Survivor".

Retrogott, known for his pivotal role in shaping Germany's hip-hop landscape, enhances the track's jazzy vibes with hard-hitting drums and a true golden era sound. While Roccwell's soulful production laid the foundation, Retrogott adds his own authentic flavor, combining vintage influences with his unique style to give "Cravings & Withdrawals" a timeless, underground feel. With this remix, "Chocolate Bars" continues to resonate with hip-hop aficionados, bridging the gap between modern and classic hip-hop sounds. " - courtesy of Ill Adrenaline Records
