Awon & Phoniks - Golden Era 2 - 2024

LP - 2024 - Don't Sleep Records

The brand new album "Golden Era 2" released by Awon & Phoniks is now available to pre-order on CD, cassette and limited-edition vinyl. The album features Anti-Lilly, Tiff the Gift, Dephlow, Hex One, V Knuckles, Demetrius Rhymes, PEL, and John Robinson.

"Awon & Phoniks make a triumphant return with "Golden Era 2," the long-awaited follow-up to their acclaimed debut, "Return to the Golden Era." The growth of the duo is evident in this new release, featuring Phoniks' thoughtful production and Awon's introspective lyrics. Together, the co-founders of Don't Sleep Records not only reflect on the past but also offer a vision for the future of underground hip hop. This album captures the nostalgic vibe of a classic era, reminiscent of the excitement when your favorite group drops a new record, with the stamp of quality you've come to expect from Don't Sleep." - courtesy of Don't Sleep Records

Lawless Element ‎- Mic Check / Wordplay - 2003

12" - 2003 - Running Man Records, Ltd

I think early 2000s was a bad time for hip-hop music. The lack of good vinyl releases was the reason that made me stop buying records at that time. But a few 12-inches remained good though. It's the case for that 12" dropped in 2003 on Running Man Records by Lawless Element, a Detroit-based duo comprised of Alfred "Cousins Griot" Austin  and Kavari "Magnif" Tapsico.

The 12" is composed of 2 songs titled "Mic Check" (Clean, Street & Instrumental) on the A-side and "Wordplay"(Street & Instrumental) on the B-side, everything produced by ILL-MC. Both tracks were supposed to be part of the album "Restoration", but it never came out.

Demo : Nefarius Ft. Juggernaut - Coalition - 1995

Here is a track from the demo tape recorded in 1995 by the T.O-based group Nefarius, which was originally comprised of Tough Dumplin a.k.a MC Collizhun, Rohan Whittingham a.k.a Kwesro and Don D. This track was first uploaded on youtube by my man Chris Complex of Dust & Dope Recordings and it features another emcee named Jugganot a.k.a Frank Payne.

Unfortunately Kwesro passed away on April 23, 1999 which will lead to the end of the group without an official album release. Rest In Peace

Bosch - Jezebel / Rizing Suns - 1997

12" - 1997 - Launchpad Records

Here is the first and only 12" released by the Baltimore-based rapper BOSCH (Alphonso Smith), member of the group Global Platoon.

The wax came out in 1997 on Launchpad Records, an indie record label managed by the late Baltimore-based DJ/Producer Herb Pollard a.k.a DJ Rockit a.k.a Roc Dolo who unfortunately passed away a few months ago... Rest In Peace.

The 12" is composed of the tracks "Jezebel" on the A-side and "Rizing Suns" on the B-side featuring Rome and Ill Logic, with productions handled by Rockit & Tacuma for Pro Color Tribe Productions.

Another cheap 12" to cop if you don't own this record yet or if you're looking to increase your Baltimore indie hip-hop record collection.
