Kavasci - C.I. - 1999

12" - 1999 - Butter Wax Records

Let's talk about this rare 12" which was released in 1999 on Butter Wax Records by Kavasci from Mattapan, Boston. Everything I know about Kavasci is that he was also known under the name of Jama a.k.a C Jama the Star Child. He was an emcee but also a producer and in the early 90s he was a member of the group Urban Dwellers (a reunion between the groups Phat Phive and Mikst Nutz) consisting of M-Slash, Ripshop, Bad Dred and the producers Rich-5 from Mattapan and DJ Buda a.k.a Buda Roc from Roxbury Mission Hill area.

Johnny Hatch, Jama a.k.a Kavasci, M-Slash, Bee Eeze & Ripshop...1993-1994 - Photo courtesy of Ripshop

This wax contains 4 tracks recorded at Waltz and Metropolis studios, "Culture Body" produced by Rich-5, "Cash Flow" produced by Buda, "Roulette" produced by Kavasci, and "Isreal" produced by Buda.

Butter wax Records was managed by Kavasci himself and this 12" is his first and only official release, which became expensive and very hard to find nowadays. Unreleased tracks exist but he never dropped them due to some personal problems at the time...

Mad Props to Buda & Ripshop

NoDōz - Ready To Detonate (CD) - 2022

CD - 2022 - HHE

"HHE is back with some legendary old school Houston, TX hip-hop! Rap-A-Lot headz better take notice right now!! For those unfamiliar, NoDōz were an old school rap duo out of Houston, TX created by the legendary Def Jam Blaster and rapper D. Latroi.

Def Jam Blaster... aaah where to begin? Maybe back in 1987 when he worked on a 7" which started the career of a local rapper named DJ Akshen?  Or 1988 when he worked on one of the most iconic 12" records EVER in hip-hop? A 12" from that same rapper Akshen that would have the world forever know him as Scarface from that day on. Or when Def Jam Blaster started the duo Private Identity in 1989 with another legendary Houston rapper 3-2? Or how in 90's Def Jam Blaster worked on albums for Raheem, Royal Flush, Willie D, Big Mello, Madd Hatta and Mobb Deep.

I think you get my point by now, this is a man that paid his dues with the best of them... Now back to our story... After Private Identity died down after doing some recordings Def Jam Blaster hooked back up with D. Latroi, a rapper he met a year before, and started making some demos, material that has remained shelved up until now as we have had the pleasure to include them as bonus tracks for the CD release.

In 1992 NoDōz were signed to Revolution Records, an imprint that was focused primarily on R&B. Right before they could finish the album D. Latroi started having some serious health issues and Revolution Records started second guessing their decision to drop a hip-hop record so the album was shelved.

Now 30 years later we are excited to present you all the tracks from those 1992 sessions, the demos and remixes all from the DAT tapes. The 8 page booklet will include an interview done by Werner Von Wallenrod with Def Jam Blaster which was done specifically for this release." - courtesy of Hip Hop Enterprise

Prophets of the Ghetto - Wreckless Writers (CD) - 2022

CD - 2022 - HHE

"Underground headz will know the deal! This is one of the grails a lot of CD headz have been looking and waiting for and we finally made it happen!

Prophets of the Ghetto are a West Philadelphia based hip-hop group that formed in the early 90's. The four emcees in the group (Meat Matter, Big Bob da Norfstar, D.B.L. and Phat-Nice, a Southside Chicago import) gel flawlessly with beats and scratches from the group’s producers and DJ's Benellis, Gamez, DJ Ken-Cut and DJ Dyce.

Wreckless Writers was the group's debut album originally released back in 2000 but the tracks of the album were all recorded between 1996-1999. Although Wreckless is P.O.G.‘s first release, the members of the group are not rookies. Besides performing at several shows in Philadelphia, they accompanied Bahamadia (who is also featured on the album) on her European tour and freestyled on the renowned Wake-Up Show in San Francisco.

Now in 2022 HHE is proud to bring this album back as the original CD-R release was only released in very limited fashion. You will get the original 15 tracks + an extra unreleased track "Chastisement" that was recorded during the Wreckless Writers sessions. We also added the 2 last tracks P.O.G. recorded and released in 2002 namely "Chillin On The Chillin Chillin" and "Support"." - courtesy of Hip Hop Enterprise
