BABY CHILL - Wake Up Call 2xLP - 2022

2xLP - 2022 - Taha & JTLM Records

"In 1993 Wake Up Call came from the late, great Tony D not long before he sadly passed. Unfortunately Baby Chill left this earth sometime in the 90’s as well. Chill came straight outta Highstown, New Jersey, to continue the Jersey funk flava Naughty By Nature, Redman and Double XX Posse have dropped on us. Baby Chill demonstrates he can flip the script on the funky tip. He catches wreck on the first single, “The Graveyard”, as well as the cut “Ducks Fly South” (which uses a slowed version of Naughty’s “Hip Hop Hooray” groove).

New Jersey’s Baby Chill was a member of The Funk Family and Blaque Spurm who released the Spurmicidal Tendencies LP (repressed in 2008) and he also appeared on “Good Morning Vietnam” by the Central Jersey Allstars. Taha and JTLM Records are happy to offer you for the first time this album on 2 limited black vinyls. So don’t miss this unique opportunity to acquire this posthumous album full of funky bangers." - courtesy of Taha & JTLM Records

Boom Platoon - Unknown track - 1993

Big Up to Madhuman for uploading this unknown track from a group from Staten Island called Boom Platoon, off a very rare Black Fist Productions promo tape released in 1993.

The tape contains tracks (no tracklist unfortunately) from the legendary King Just, the female emcee Synna, Rug Ratz, Boom Platoon, Shaolin Soldiers (Leathaface, Baby Pa, Fes a.k.a Profes, Star a.k.a Starchild) and the group Militant Misfits.

King Just & The Shaolin Soldiers - Photo courtesy of Luck Da Barber

No more info about those groups because they didn't release anything else after that, except King Just who dropped the classic "Mystics Of The God" album in 1995 on Black Fist Records. The Shaolin Soldiers feature on it. Everything I know is that Shaolin Soldiers member Profes was also a member of the group Militant Misfits, Leathaface was also a member of Boom Platoon and Star was also a member of Rug Ratz.

Swollen Members Feat Dilated Peoples – Counter Parts - 1999

12" - 1999 - Battle Axe Records

Here is the second 12" released in 1999 by the rap trio Swollen Members, consisted of Mad Child, Prevail and DJ Zodak from Vancouver, Canada. It came out on their own Battle Axe Label.

The wax consists of the tracks "Front Street" produced by The Alchemist on the A-side and "Counter Parts" on the B-side which features Dilated Peoples' Iriscience and Evidence who produced the track. It also features the legendary Kutmasta Kurt on the cuts. In my opinion "Counter Parts" is definitely the best track pressed on this very cheap 12".

Dizzy Dustin X Pandamonium - Three Kings (Pandamonium 2022 Remix)

DJ Pandamonium is back with a remix of "Three Kings" featuring Rakka Iriscience & Swiss Precise, song originally from Dizzy Dustin solo LP "Where Do I Go From Here?".

Serious ‎- Eyes On The Prize / Serious - 1997

12" - 1997 - Pump Records

Here is another 12" to get in his collection ! It was released in 1997 on Pump Records by SERIOUS who seems to be an emcee from Philly. The A-side of the wax contains "Eyes On The Prize" (Vocal & Instrumental) and the B-side contains "Serious" (Vocal & Instrumental), both tracks produced by Capital J.

Pump Records was a record label based in Los Angeles, California. I don't know exactly how an emcee from Philly was signed with a label from L.A but I believe everything happened with the help of Static a.k.a DJ Staticman, who was originally from Hawai but was also based in L.A in the late 90s. He managed Rude Funk Entertainment and also worked on Radio Free Hawaii 102.7 FM. He was the owner of the 40 Shack Studios based in Honolulu, Hawai where both tracks of the 12" were recorded. Moreover all the tracks from SERIOUS's self-titled album released on CD one year later were recorded there and were produced by Static and Capital J. I've sent a few messages to SERIOUS and Static to get more info but no answers for now unfortunately...

Here's a cassette recording of Eminem (Freestyle & Interview) on The Drum back on Sunday night February 7, 1999. The Drum was a Radio Show hosted by Kevvy Kev & Mike Nice and aired on KZSU, the Stanford University's FM radio station broadcasting across the Bay Area on 90.1 FM. The sound isn't really good during the first couple minutes but it's fine after that... A few interesting tracks in this show like this dope Planet Asia's The Drum/KZSU promo !!  Mad Props to my man Shaun D a.k.a Wicked (of The Wicked Takeover Show) for the rip of the tape.
