Bob is back with a few unreleased demos recorded between 1993 and 1997 by the Bushwick-based producer Rich Blak (of Da Beatminerz) :

 

"Well it's been a while, but we are finally back in Bushwick for the latest installment in the CHBU5H Series. But what happened to CHBU5H09 I hear you say - and that's a very, very good question....hold tight and you will get the answer 1st week of June......

So after years of trying, I finally hooked up with the man like Rich Blak, one time member of Da Beatminerz extended crew.  Rich is that dude, so we hit it off right away and he dug deep into his 90's demos and found this selection of unreleased heaters from the SHU-BOX Studio days.

SHU-BOX studios was located in the basement of Rich's crib around Decatur St & Knickerbocker Ace in the Bushwick [Darkside] section of BK. He recorded a bunch of material down there with local artists in the 90's and this selection of demos heard for the first time here, is what we present to you as another part of the much-loved CHBU5H series on Herring.

Many heads will know Shadez of Brookyn, but the rest of the acts are pretty obscure. Poetikal Thugz was Rich and Chocolate Tye, both Beatminerz affiliates at the time of these demos. Nothing was ever released by the PT's, until now, that is. Franc P was a local MC who used to hang out with the fellas. N.O.R was a Shadez spin off outfit and KOK/TNA used to work with Rich on demos and nearly signed with Priority.

Demo : GOS - Whatever it Takes

Highlight on this unreleased track titled "Whatever it Takes" featuring GOS a.k.a Gift Of Speech & DJ Jay-Ski, and produced by my man OMNE. If you do remember, OMNE is the Philly-based producer affiliated with the group P.H.A. also known as Power Hittin' Artists, comprised of Granz, Prince Lord Naeem & Wise KABAR (RIP) who dropped a few singles in the mid/late-90s. OMNE is really cool, he sent me a batch of unreleased tracks recently and the song "Whatever It Takes" is one of them.

OMNE : "There's a studio in Philly (Larry Gold's) that has basically been the main studio people who are serious about music record in for the past 20 years now... such as The Roots and many other, major and independent artists, mostly Hip-Hop and R'n'B.

GOS and I connected through working at the studio. GOS (Gift of Speech) is an engineer there. I would book time after midnight in the B room cause that's what we could barely afford. I recorded there (mostly in the B room) with Aphillyation, PHA, Maylay Sparks, Kamachi, Last Emperor, and Jay-Ski.

GOS would end up being our engineer. So we clicked and eventually and I got to hear some of his tracks. After a little while we ended up working on some stuff together. My personal favorite being "Whatever It Takes" with Jay-Ski on the cuts.

One night after midnight I came in and payed the beat down, GOS proceeded to lay his vocals and lastly Jay-Ski came through, he had no idea what he was gonna be cutting on the track and had never even heard the track before.

Regardless it takes him no time at all to lay his cuts. I had all the stuff picked out already for him to cut. He cues it up runs through a couple times and he's ready to record. Every session with Jay was always like that. He can save you plenty of doe in the studio. He knows what he's doing.. Unfortunately the track was never released, which sucks because I think it was the best track I ever had something to do with.. "

GOS only officially released a single sometime around 2001 called "Roll with the Punches". It was released on 12" via Soulspazm Records. OMNE put out an EP around 2004 that no one ever really heard named "Aratone Epidemic". It has GOS, Maylay Sparks, Kamachi, Aphillyation featuring on it...

The Meccanizm a.k.a The Mecc consisted of Chief Rhythm, Gbo, Xtra, Doc Terror and Producer Dooley-O. It was a group from New Haven, CT and was originally known under the name of KGB. Here is their unreleased album from 1994 !

Everyone remembers this classic joint "Who's Talking the Weight" produced by K-Note and released on 12" in 1997 by Redlife, a duo consisted of Action & Remy Rezzin' from Rexdale (Toronto, Canada). They were signed by B.E Records (Black Employed Record) managed by Mr Attic and Swiff of The Grassroots.



Kevin Beacham recently uploaded a Redlife's single on his youtube channel titled "4scope" featuring Ghetto Concept, released on tape in 1995 and which was unknown until this day. Both tracks "Who's Talking the Weight" & "4scope" were supposed to be in their planned album, but unfortunately It has never seen the light of day... 

Today is a good day... here are specially for you some exclusive snippets from the unreleased album !!!! Sorry but for some reasons I keep the name of the original tape's owner for now, mad props to him ... Enjoy Fellas

Don't Sleep Records - Original Demos & Unreleased Tracks

"Every emcee I've worked with will tell you there's a 50/50 chance I try to change the beat on any track we record together. Here's a collection of 20 tracks with their original beats that ultimately got cut from the album and swapped for something else. Also included are a few unreleased joints that got scrapped altogether. Some of them I'm not sure why. Give it a listen and hear the original flows as they were intended before I went in and tampered with them.
