Jamani ‎- Ya'll Know My StelĂ³ - 1995

12" - 1995 - Fales

Here is the only 12" released by the Jamaican descent emcee named Jamani. It came out on the Orlando-based label Fales in 1995 and consists of a unique single entitled "Ya'll Know My StelĂ³" produced by DJ Nasty.

The main sample used by DJ Nasty for the production comes from the a song called "Lonely Town" released by Freddie Hubbard in 1971.

All I know about Jamani is that he was from Orlando, FL and was also a top BMX bike rider. He was managed by Tony Wilkins who also executive produced the 12". Tony wrote the column The Hip Hop Minute for Jack The Rapper magazine and was also behind local groups such like 95 South, 69 Boyz and Quad City DJs. He signed Jamani to a deal at 17 to Cheetah / Warner Bros in 1995. Jamani was friend with DJ Nasty. DJ Nasty, Khaled (yes that DJ Khaled !) and DJ Caesar formed the Hitmen Productions team at the time.

2 other tracks were also recorded by Jamani during the 90s... the first one is "Da Outer Limits" from "The Outer Limits Of Audio Fidelity" compilation album released on CD in 1996 on Cheetah Records.

The second track "Da Glades" (The Everglades of Florida) was produced by DJ Khaled. According to Tony Wilkins, Jamani had articles in all the rap publications when the track was dropped at the time. Don't know if this song is good, I've never listened to it and I'm not sure it has already been uploaded on the internet. After that Jamani changed direction... He's now living in Atlanta,GA.

NAME - Logic - 1998

12" - 1998 - Interworld Agency Media

Here is the second 12" dropped by NAME (NAM), a Philly-based group comprised of Grand Agent, Mr. Cisum (member of the Action Figure Crew) and Ozzie Jones (a.k.a Ol' Man).

In 1994, Mr Cisum and Grand Agent met at the Art Institute in Philly. Grand Agent who was a writer/journalist worked at Freedom Theatre, where Ol' Man was the assistant to the Artistic Director. Grand Agent introduced them to each other, that's how NAME was founded.

The wax came out on Interworld Agency Media in 1998. The main single of the record is "Black Thought" produced by Grand Agent but I really prefer the track "Logic" on the flip side, produced by Mr Cisum and Grand Agent. "Logic" was played by Bobbito on his CM Famalam Radio Show in 1998 when it came out.

The wax is very cheap, so if you like that track you should grab it. If you prefer to buy an original copy of the full album "Lost Page Of The B-Boy Document" originally released on Tape & promo CD in 1998, it will cost you more than a few dollars unfortunately...
