MF 911 - The Rukus EP - 2012

EP - 2012 - Black Pegasus Records

Here is the wax released by MF 911 on Black Pegasus Records in 2012, a record label from Chicago founded by DJ/Producer Marc Davis. "The Rukus" is an EP containing tracks originally recorded in 1996 and produced by Ant Live, Ced Rat and Track Master 30/30.

It's a very good EP and it's most definitely a must-have.

For those who aren't really familiar with this group, MF 911 (also known under Mother F*%king Emergency, Mega Force or 911) is a group from Detroit Michigan, consisting of Antlive The Mad Scientist King, Cedrat, and Mainy Main. Even if the group is considered as a Hip-Hop trio, a fourth member named Tim the Terrible was also in the crew at the beginning. They became the second rap group from Detroit to be signed to a major label (Next Plateau / London Polygram Records). Known for bringing gritty East Coast-style hip hop to the Motor City, MF 911 gained recognition for their hardcore Boombap sound especially with their 1993 street anthem "900".

The group was discovered and named by Chuck D of Public Enemy in 1987. After a year of lost contact, MF 911 connected with the Ultramagnetic MC's Foundation in 1991 and released their debut album "Idol The Bloodsport" in 1993. The project featured productions from Ced Gee, Antlive and Cedrat. "Idol The Bloodsport", their sole release under Next Plateau, received critical acclaim and is regarded as a classic within Detroit's underground hip-hop scene... an essential record for any serious hip-hop collector. I highly recommend owning a copy too.

In 1996, as the group was finishing up their second album "The Rukus" their label Next Plateau Records was acquired by major label Mercury Records. As a result, their new album was left unreleased and without a label to support its launch. But it saw the light of day on vinyl in 2012 (10 tracks only) with the help of Black Pegasus Records.

The group temporarily disbanded in 1995 due to internal conflicts but later reconciled. They reunited for a 25th-anniversary tour and released their third studio album, "Return to the Bloodsport", on November 6, 2015.
